Most people I know realize that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fundraisers abound, education campaigns premier new materials, articles appear with quotes on the latest research, and being America, the retail industry is in on it big time. Shopping with a cause is definitely a modern invention.
The October issue of SELF Magazine has a great article containing a selection of items that donate a portion of each sale (or a capped total amount) to a different charity. One of the better selections are the pajamas ($24) because 100% of the price goes to the Komen foundation. There are lotions to benefit the Breast Cancer Resource Foundation (BCRF), Lacoste beach towels and a Wilson tennis racket that also benefit the BCRF. Buying categories are work, relax, flirt, play, primp, and travel, and the editors put together a super thorough selection of items. All the products are organized on the SELF website, with links for purchasing each item. Hey. Retail therapy with a feel-good effect because you're actually helping the cause? I know somebody out there is on board with me.
