Happy birthday to me, and here's my favorite quote of the day: "Mom, your new hair looks like you." Kids are into birthdays, therefore they're into my birthday. Not a bad thing when you have two 9-year-old boys who couldn't be any nicer, smarter, funnier, more creative, more loving of baseball and the Giants. Ok, so I sound like a bragging mother. And why not? I'm proud of the hard work I put into parenting. The point is, if you're a mom I'd like you to stand up and take a bow and give yourself a pat on the back. Working mom, single mom, stay-at-home mom, step-mom. . .all give selflessly, remain starving when feeding everyone else first, are able to repair everything from a baseball glove to an exploding blender, and can function as resident IT technician when really desperate.
The world is full of complainers and negative moments. It's not always the case that we're getting our "atta-girls" or for that matter a medal of valor for what we endured in a week. I'd like to encourage all moms to find five minutes today and savor your accomplishments, victories, and thousands of jobs well done.
